Severn River Association
Three things about the Severn River Association (SRA), the organization that speaks for our capital river.
1 – SRA’s water quality monitoring program just wrapped up. The number crunching begins! Learn more.
2 – Earlier this week, SRA presented a talk on Oyster restoration in the river. You can see the recording here.
3 – Bay Weekly recently wrote about how the Severn River Association is bringing residents to the shoreline to discover the creatures that live in the shallows. If you live along the Severn River you may want to involve your community next spring and summer. There’s a lot to be learned from little creatures like mummichog, bull minnows, Atlantic silversides, pipefish, gobies, blennies, mosquito fish and even seahorses – all found by curious citizen scientists under this SRA program. Oyster Recovery Partnership
Are you serving oysters at your Thanksgiving celebration? Be sure to put those empty oyster shells where they belong – NOT in the trash, but in an Oyster Recovery Partnership bin – so the shells can later be host material for baby oysters. There are lots of convenient drop-off sites. Learn more.
Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary
The Sanctuary has many events has many events every week like a stream water chemistry field trip tomorrow and a post-Thanksgiving Turkey Trail Run. And the walking trails are beautiful. Learn more.
Friends of Jug Bay is planning a fundraising trip to natural areas in Costa Rica in March to learn about that country’s astounding biodiversity. Learn more.

Scenic Rivers Land Trust
Tomorrow, November 19, take in the beauty of the season on Scenic Rivers Land Trust’s Fall Foliage Hike! Scenic Rivers staff will lead a guided hike of the Contee Farm portion of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center campus in Edgewater, MD, which is forever protected by a conservation easement coheld by Scenic Rivers and Maryland Environmental Trust. St. Luke’s Restoration of Nature
Last week Midshipmen from the USNA Midshipmen Action Group and Scouts from Troop 855 in Severna Park helped remove invasive plants from St. Luke’s Restoration of Nature including over 25 bags of ivy, honeysuckle, and wineberries. Learn more and see the photos.
