Chesapeake loses a great leader and friend

By now you have probably read the sad news about the passing of Nick DiPasquale on Thanksgiving Day. There have been several tributes to him in the past few days. Links are below. I would like to add our memories of Nick here.

When Nick came to Annapolis as the newly appointed head of the Bay Program he immediately made it his mission to meet everyone who was involved in environmental work in this area and that, lucky for us, included Annapolis Green. Apart from the great influence he had from his perch as EPA rep and head of the program, he was always available with words of advice and perspective and he was even an Annapolis Green financial supporter. It wasn’t long before he also became a friend.

A gentle man and a gentleman, Nick did not shy away from expressing strong, well thought out opinions on Bay restoration, the pace of government policy and work, and the trajectory of the country and planet in general. And he was funny! It was always a pleasure to spend time with Nick and his wonderful wife, Becky, who he met in Annapolis. They had what can only be called a loving, perfect marriage. After his retirement they moved to Chestertown and it was a joy to visit their beautiful home full of books, photos, great food and wine, and their hilarious dogs.

I am so glad he and Becky were able to enjoy a wonderful trip to Italy right before cancer and associated medical problems took him from us.

The Bay is in a better place because of Nick and we are better people for having known him; I certainly am. Fairwinds and following seas, my friend.
