Let’s Talk About Climate Change: Reaching the Tipping Point for Climate Action
September 7, 2022 at 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Dr. Sara Via presents this webinar that addresses how we can we reach the tipping point by increasing the adoption of behaviors that help curb climate change. Social scientists know that many social and psychological factors affect people’s decisions about adopting a new behavior, and also that new ideas spread through communities in very consistent ways. This work has suggested some very effective strategies for increasing the adoption of behaviors that produce societal benefits.
Although some discount the importance of individual behaviors in the climate solution, the decisions we make about our homes, our diets, and what we buy underlie up to 72% of US greenhouse gas emissions. This alone makes individual climate action fundamental to curbing climate change.
But simply recognizing ways we can reduce our climate impact has additional benefits– it boosts our awareness of the issues, builds confidence that we can contribute to change, and tends to make us more supportive of local, state and federal climate initiatives
