Meeting on Banning Single-Use Plastic Bags in Anne Arundel County
March 20, 2023 at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Are you sick of seeing plastic bags littering our landscape and damaging our waterways? Here’s something you can do.
Attend a virtual meeting tonight at 7pm to learn about Anne Arundel County Ordinance 19-23. The bill will ban plastic carryout bags and incentivize people to bring reusables. Retailers will charge at least 10 cents for paper bags, but this is not a tax because the retailer will keep the 10 cents. The point of the bill is to move people to bringing their own bags.
Join in on a discussion of environmental impacts of plastic and paper carryout bags, what we’ve learned from efforts to address the problem elsewhere in the state and nation, and how the ordinance addresses it. Register HERE and we’ll send you the link.
Ordinance 19-23 was introduced in Council on March 6, sponsored by Council member Lisa Rodvien and cosponsored by Council members Hummer and Pickard. There will be a public hearing on the ordinance on Monday, April 3, at County Council chambers, Arundel Center, 44 Calvert Street. at 7 p.m. We need your support to get this bill passed! Prepare to testify by attending this informative meeting tonight, brought to you by the Anne Arundel Sierra Club Group and the Maryland Sierra Club Zero Waste Team working with WISE and Annapolis Green.
