Londontowne Symphony Orchestra Concert: Celebrating Annapolis Green
The Londontowne Symphony Orchestra will begin your evening with classic pieces you'll know by heart, followed by The Eastport Oyster Boys, our hometown Chesapeake ambassadors, with their own classic pieces you know by heart. The LSO's season finale and gala will promote a sustainable, environmentally friendly community with memorable music to match. Scenic Rivers Land Trust is excited to announce the second season of its Invasive Species Control Program at Bacon Ridge Natural Area. In May and June Scenic Rivers staff will gather for weekly workdays with small groups of volunteers to remove invasive plant species along the trails of the Natural Area. Invasive plant species, such as Japanese stiltgrass, wavyleaf basketgrass, and oriental bittersweet, can be incredibly damaging to forest ecosystems. Kick off the weekend with the great feeling that comes with doing good and important work! Join Jug Bay Field Work Fridays every Friday rain or shine. Volunteers join staff naturalists to tackle a stewardship project in need of support. Projects include invasive plant removals, trash clean-ups, gardening, citizen science monitoring, and more. Smithsonian Environmental Research Center presents its next Earth Optimism webinar, featuring Atiya Wells, founder of the nonprofit Backyard Basecamp in Baltimore City. She will highlight the importance of equity in landscape design, creation and community cultivation. With their BLISS Meadows project, Backyard Basecamp has reclaimed 10 acres of vacant land in their neighborhood to be used for environmental education and community greenspace, and to help communities of color reconnect with nature.
