Unity Gardens Spring Lecture: Plant This, Not That!

At this annual spring lecture hosted by Unity Gardens learn about how any yard can be a mecca for songbirds, pollinators, and beneficial insects if you make the right plant choices. But let’s face it, if you’ve already got an existing landscape, it’s hard to know where to start.

The speaker for this virtual and in-person event is Shari Wilson, former Maryland Secretary of the Environment and author of the Nuts for Natives website and blog. Her weekly blog showcases beautiful native landscapes and she advises gardeners on common native plant swaps for boxwoods, crape myrtles, liriope and other standbys that many of us inherited with our houses – or perhaps planted ourselves before we knew the vast benefits of native plants. You’ll also learn different strategies for making the switch to natives, from baby steps to going all in. Whether you’ve got a postage stamp or a sprawling property, everyone will go away with a list of must-have plants to add to their spring shopping list.
