October 22, 2019 at 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

toxic beautyPresented by the Annapolis Film Festival, Toxic Beauty is a documentary feature film that explores the question, “What if the next biggest chemical disaster is happening inside us?” Click for movie trailer.

Beauty products are a multi-billion-dollar industry. Despite public attention, companies continue to pursue practices that leave the average consumer wondering which brands can be trusted. Toxic Beauty’s case in point is the landmark class action lawsuit brought by female cancer victims against Johnson & Johnson, in the face of the company’s insistence that its baby talc products are safe. In exclusive interviews with scientists, whistleblowers and lawyers, the film reveals the ongoing lack of government regulation of cosmetics. To personalize the effects, the film enlists Mymy, a young medical student whose morning beauty routine includes more than 27 annapolis film festivalmainstream products. Her body is tested, then tested again after using clean beauty products; the results are shocking. In the end, the film presents companies and people who offer solutions and optimism for safer, toxicant free cosmetics.

Followed By Q&A with Special Guests.
