Annapolis Green is delighted to partner with United States Boat Shows to Green the most visible outdoor events in downtown Annapolis -- the United States Sailboat and Powerboat shows in October.

In the fall of 2012, we were able to being a program of recycling at the shows. In the fall of 2013, thanks to a grant from the BoatU.S. Foundation, we will expand recycling to reach all corners of the boat shows. In addition the grant monies will allow us to develop a toolkit so that the organizers of other waterside events can learn from adn use what we've developed. A mobile-ready website will be developed to make Green Boating easy in the Annapolis area.

This project is part of our overall Festival Greening program, established to divert waste generated in the many outdoor events held in our area every year from the landfill to recycling.

wastestrategieseco-stationsPartnering with WasteStrategies, Annapolis Green is helping United States Yacht Shows provide its attendees and vendors an easy way to recycle glass, plastic and metal inside the shows. Brightly colored “eco-stations” will be sprinkled throughout the Fall Sailboat Show and Powerboat Show, augmenting the cardboard recycling initiative that United States Yacht Shows has had in place for several years.

In addition, Annapolis Green has initiated a “Three Rs” public information campaign: “Red Right Recycling!” to encourage show attendees and vendors to “Do Good for the Bay,” by following the example of United States Yacht Shows and local residents who are dedicated to the environment and the Chesapeake Bay.

Last fall, with the sponsorship of Dream Yacht Charter, BoatU.S. Foundation, Annapolis Accommodations, and Loews Annapolis Hotel/WEST Kitchen & Tavern, we were able to put this project in place to demonstrate to boat show visitors that area residents and businesses care about the environment and the Chesapeake Bay and that they should too. As the biggest outdoor events in Annapolis, the provision of recycling at the boat shows sends a powerful message.

United States Yacht Shows President Ed Hartman said, “We are delighted to offer our attendees and vendors this opportunity. Our business depends on the health of the Chesapeake, and we are happy to do our share.”

In addition to news media outreach, our initiatives included banners hanging at the shows, signage on the eco-bins themselves and aboard eCruisers all-electric vehicles, and a rack card with a recycling call to action and a coupon for 20 percent off your meal check at West Kitchen & Tavern! The cards were being handed out at the shows and aboard the eCruisers.
